      One of the most familiar fruits in the world, sweet orange is grown throughout many warm regions of the globe, notably Brazil, and, in the United States, California and Florida. The essential oil of the wonderfully round and juice-filled fruit comes from its pleasing orange peel and bears a sweet, citrusy and refreshing fragrance. This variety of orange is related to, but not the same as, bitter orange (Citrus aurantium), which yields its signature tart oil, as well as petitgrain and neroli.

Regularly found in many nations both as both fresh fruit and juice, orange is believed to have originated in Asia, but by the 1600s, it was renowned and prized in Europe as well. Admired for its qualities, orange has also been used to help ease occasional stress, reinforcing its associations with a sunny, happy state of mind.

      Aromatherapy Uses

      Bath & Shower

      Add 5-10 drops to hot bath water, or sprinkle into shower steam before getting in for an at-home spa experience.

      Massage

      8-10 drops of essential oil per 1 ounce of carrier oil. Apply a small amount directly to areas of concern, such as muscles, skin, or joints. Work the oil gently into the skin until it is fully absorbed.

      Inhalation

      Inhale the aromatic vapors directly from the bottle, or place a few drops in a burner or diffuser to fill a room with its scent.
