Ubiquinol improves symptoms in children with autism
While doctors don’t yet understand what causes autism, oxidative stress appears to play a role. In this study, researchers measured nutrient and oxidation levels in 24 kids, aged 3 to 6, diagnosed with autism according to DSM-IV, a standard psychological measure. The children took 50 mg of ubiquinol twice per day. After three months, oxidative stress levels were slightly lower and ubiquinol levels increased from 0.512 to 3.016 micromoles per liter of blood (µmol/L), with benefits beginning at 2.5 µmol/L. In 12 to 17 percent of these children, self-harm, aggressiveness, and food rejection decreased, and communication with parents increased. Verbal communication improved in 21 percent; sleep in 34 percent, and playing games with friends increased in 42 percent. Doctors successfully adjusted the time they gave ubiquinol in the morning and in the early evening before sleep as a way to manage the rare instance where a child had a negative reaction at first.
