A flowering herb in the Lamiaceae (mint) family, patchouli features fragrant foliage, which is the source of its essential oil. Originating in the warmer climes of Asia, the plant yields a notably potent oil and distillation in iron vats leads to the deep, earthy aroma.

History of Patchouli

Patchouli is often associated with the humid, exotic locales of India, where the plant is a botanical native, and this iteration of the oil captures the mystique of traveling through the vast subcontinent, its exotic fragrance on the breeze. Of course, patchouli is also closely linked to hippie counterculture and particularly pungent burning incense.
