Multi-vitamins may reduce colon cancer

Researchers said multi-vitamin-mineral supplements appear to be chemo-protective and may reduce the chances of colon cancer.

In a lab study, rats ate a high-fat, low-fiber diet for 32 weeks, with or without a daily multi-vitamin-mineral supplement, and then were exposed to carcinogens. The non-multi-vitamin group developed pre-cancerous colon lesions and tumors, while the multi-vitamin-mineral group developed 84 percent fewer lesions and did not develop tumors.
