There is virtually no information on whether men and women respond to whey protein in the same manner. Canadian researchers recruited an equal number of resistance trained men and women and had them perform a multi-set bout of lower body resistance exercise, then immediately consume 25 grams of whey protein. The rates of muscle protein synthesis for 5 hours after exercise were increased to a similar extent in men (2.3 fold) and women (2.7 fold).
An additional aspect of this experiment involved having the men and women return the next morning and consume another 25 grams of whey protein. Again the muscle protein synthesis was elevated after whey protein, but was of similar magnitude between men and women.
These results indicate whey protein is an equally effective supplement for stimulating muscle protein synthesis after resistance exercise in men and women.
