Bilberry for heart
Bilberry improved lipid profiles in this pilot study of 25 women and 11 men who took 5 ounces of frozen bilberries three times per week for six weeks. Overall, triglycerides decreased by 27 percent, total cholesterol by 6 percent, LDL cholesterol by 7 percent, and HDL, the “good” cholesterol, increased by 6 percent. Within the overall results, LDL cholesterol decreased in women and rose slightly in men. Both men and women saw improvements in glucose levels and in signs of liver and kidney function. Doctors said the dark pigment in bilberry contains antioxidant anthocyanosides that strengthen blood vessels and improve overall circulation.
