Folic acid in diabetes
Depression increases the chances of type 2 diabetes, and doctors suspected antidepressant drugs may contribute to this tendency. In the lab, the antidepressant fluoxetine reduced the natural insulin response to elevated blood sugar levels and increased oxidative stress and damage in rat cells. When researchers introduced folic acid, the insulin response remained normal.
