Curcumin may improve multiple mood symptoms
Because curcumin influences several biological functions linked to major depression, doctors wanted to test its effect in treating depressive disorders. In the study, 56 people with major depressive disorder took either 500 mg of curcumin or a placebo twice per day. The curcumin supplement contained 88 percent total curcuminoids. After four weeks, both the placebo and curcumin groups had improved scores on standard depression symptom questionnaires, but from the fourth to the eighth week, curcumin was more effective than placebo in improving multiple mood symptoms.
