Live longer with fiber
Doctors in this study were interested in the effects of diet on those with higher chances of heart disease. There were 7,216 older men and women who started the study without heart disease but had other health factors that included type 2 diabetes, smoking, treated or untreated high blood pressure, high LDL (bad) or low HDL (good) cholesterols, overweight, or family history of heart disease.

Over a 9-year follow-up period, those who consumed at least 35 grams of fiber per day were 41 percent less likely to have died from any cause compared to those who got less than 17 grams of fiber per day.
