Green tea, ginger and capsaicin help with weight loss

Three nutrients helped women lose weight and improve metabolic function. In this study, 50 overweight women took a placebo or a daily total of 500 mg of green tea extract, 200 mg of ginger extract, and 100 mg of capsaicin (an active component of chili peppers), half at lunch time and half at dinner.

After eight weeks, women in the supplement group had lost 3.9 pounds compared to a gain of 0.9 pounds for placebo. Body mass index (BMI) scores decreased for the women taking supplements while increasing for placebo, and insulin levels and insulin resistance decreased more than for placebo. On a side note, Glutathione, an important antioxidant, increased for the supplement group while decreasing for placebo.
