Vitamins B6 and B12 improve mood, memory, attention and problem solving
Researchers in this study measured the diets of 1,956 people of Hispanic or non-Hispanic ethnicity. Over a five-year period, participants took mental performance tests and answered questionnaires about symptoms of depression.

The mental tests included simple questions about time and place, remembering cues and repeating phrases, spelling words backwards, recalling words from a list, naming objects such as a pencil or a watch, and copying the drawing of a figure. The depression questionnaire rated how severe symptoms were for low mood, insomnia, irritability, anxiety, weight loss, and other factors common in those who feel depressed.

Compared to those with lower levels, those with higher levels of vitamin B12 had fewer and milder symptoms of depression and were less likely to be depressed. Also compared to those with lower levels, those with higher levels of vitamin B6 or vitamin B12 scored higher on the mental tests overall, had greater ability to plan, better memory, attention, problem solving and verbal reasoning.
