Boost folic acid levels to improve blood pressure
In one long-term study, doctors measured blood pressure six times over the course of 20 years in 4,400 men and women who began the trial between the ages of 18 and 30. Nearly one in four eventually developed high blood pressure. But those with the most folic acid in the diet—an average of 302.3 mcg per day—were 52 percent less likely to have high blood pressure compared to those who got the least folic acid, 91.8 mcg per day.
