America's number-one folk remedy, aloe, is a succulent perennial of the lily family native to Africa and grown commercially in southern Texas and Central America.

The fresh gel is widely used as a folk medicine for minor burns and sunburn, as well as minor cuts and scrapes. Aloe naturally contains complex plant sugars called polysaccharides. Various lengths of these sugar chains have been the focus of most clinical studies evaluating the health benefits of aloe. However, improper processing techniques and high heat pasteurization break up polysaccharide chains - rendering the resulting aloe product ineffective. For the greatest health benefit, choose only an aloe brand with a high polysaccharide potency independently approved by the International Aloe Certification Laboratories (IACL).
Aloe grows in dry climates and absorbs available water to survive in dry spells. As a result, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and fertilizers present in ground water are also readily absorbed and stored in the aloe leaf.
Unfortunately, many companies buy aloe as a commodity, looking for the lowest price without regard for where and how it was grown. For safety and purity, consider only an aloe brand independently certified to be organic.
