Phosphatidylserine – vital for the brain* Rolls back the mental clock by roughly 12 years*
In one double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, researchers wanted to evaluate the effect of PS on memory. They recruited 149 subjects aged 50 to 79 years with age-associated memory impairment (AAMI), a risk factor for dementia. After taking 300 mg per day for 12 weeks, the PS group improved memory performance as much as 30% over placebo. Memory tests included name recall, telephone number recall, facial recognition and object placement (keys and glasses).
One subgroup experienced more benefit from PS — those who had the worst scores in the beginning and who were slightly older than the average.
Using name-face acquisition data, researchers estimated this group “rolled back the clock” 12 years.*
Helps athletes blunt cortisol*
The stress hormone cortisol is produced during strenuous physical exercise and can break down muscle tissue. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, nine cyclists were given either 400 mg or 800 mg of PS per day for 10 days.
After the 10 days, they came to the lab where they rode a bicycle ergometer for 20 minutes to exhaustion. Analysis of blood samples taken during exercise showed that 800 mg of PS lowered the stress hormone cortisol 30% more than placebo.
Helps children with attention problems*
In a preliminary open study on children with attention deficit, hyperactivity and learning problems, 27 children aged 3-19 were given 200 or 300 mg per day of PS, depending on body size, for up to four months. At the end of the study, PS showed clinically meaningful benefit for 25 of 27 children. PS improved attention, concentration, learning, behavior and academic performance.*
Works best with EPA & DHA found in fish oil*
The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA work synergistically with PS to provide the building blocks for healthy cell membranes. Recent scientific evidence supports the use of EPA and DHA for cognition, behavior and mood, as well as for early brain development and overall mental performance. Taking PS in combination with EPA and DHA from fish oil ensures the nerve cells and brain work well.*
How Much Phosphatidylserine (PS) to Take
• Start with 300 mg of PS per day for 1-3 months (with meals), then take 100 mg (one softgel) per day for general health maintenance
• For mood problems, start at 400 mg per day for 1 month or longer—for best results, take with at least 200 mg of EPA and 200 mg of DHA found in fish oil
• Take up to 500 mg per day for better results
• Athletes may require 800 mg per day to blunt cortisol
NOTE: Lindberg uses the form of phosphatidylserine used in many studies that prove its effectiveness. Each softgel provides 500 mg of phosphatidylserine complex containing 100 mg of phosphatidylserine.
