These tablets are perfect to use throughout the day when it’s inconvenient to mix up a protein shake.
Added extra leucine (free form amino acid) helps activate the muscle building process*
Here’s a little bit of the science behind this formula. Whey protein is one of the best muscle-building proteins, largely because of its high leucine content. In 25 grams of protein from whey, you get about 3,000 mg of leucine. In 25 grams of protein from casein, you get about 2,300 mg of leucine. And in 25 grams of protein from soy, you get about 1,500 mg of leucine. The lower the leucine levels in a protein, the lower the effect it has on muscle protein synthesis. Researchers speculate this is due to leucine’s impact on mTOR. When you activate the body’s mTOR pathway, muscle protein synthesis is stimulated. It’s thought that the minimum threshold to activate mTOR is around 1,700 to 2,400 mg of leucine for resistance-trained young men. Older men may need more.*
You need all the amino acids to build muscle, not just leucine
Other research shows just straight leucine doesn’t activate muscle-protein synthesis as well as when all the other amino acids are present. In order to duplicate this effect, we’ve combined about 5,000 mg of whey protein with 400 mg of leucine in 5 tablets. The 5,000 mg of whey contains about 400 mg of naturally-occurring leucine. We then doubled the leucine found in this much whey with another 400 mg of leucine. In essence, you’re getting a double dose of leucine compare to what is in the same amount of whey. AminoFit has the other amino acids you need to build muscle and it has extra leucine to help activate the muscle-building process. While 800 mg of leucine in 5 tablets is not enough to exceed the leucine threshold of about 1,700 mg, you’re almost halfway there. It’s a great addition to a lower protein meal, for between meals throughout the day, or before or after a workout to keep you in the anabolic mode. For example, when you eat lunch, have an afternoon snack, or head to the gym, tossing down a few tablets is a great time to supplement your daily protein needs.*
Other options for adding leucine to your muscle-building program
If you’re looking for pure leucine, Fitness Labs has a pure leucine powder. People use it to add to their pre-workout formula or to a protein drink. Leucine is rather bitter, so you’ll need to mask the taste with juice or other beverage.
Another way to get added leucine is to take our Fitness Labs BCAAs called BCAAFit. We carry a straight 2:1:1 powder which has 2,500 mg of leucine, 1,250 mg of valine and 1,250 mg of isoleucine per scoop. It is bitter as well, so you’ll have to mix it into something flavored. It’s popular with those creating their own pre-workout formula or when they don’t want a full protein drink. We also sell BCAA capsules (same 2:1:1 ratio) for those who want to avoid the taste of BCAAs. Like AminoFit, BCAAFit is great to take when you’ve eaten a lower protein meal.
The bottom line - we have many ways to help you add leucine to your diet. Taking these very economical AminoFit Tablets is just one of them. Keep a bottle at the office or in the gym bag and take throughout the day to help you stay in the anabolic mode.*
Whey protein is one of the best muscle-building proteins, which some studies show may be attributed to its high leucine content. Leucine helps activate the body's mTOR pathway, which in turn helps stimulate muscle protein synthesis. That's why we doubled the leucine amount naturally found in whey by adding 400 mg of free-form L-Leucine per serving.*
