Blood Health

The blood needs adequate iron for optimal health

Healthy blood is essential to overall health. Blood needs adequate iron, which helps build and replace blood cells that deliver oxygen throughout the body. Iron deficiency anemia is due to insufficient iron.  Iron deficiency anemia is common, especially in women.

Iron can be found in foods such as red meat, liver, whole wheat, kidney beans, prunes and raisins. An iron supplement is recommended for people who don’t consume enough of these foods. Many multi-vitamins contain iron, but separate iron vitamin supplements are also available in varying dosages to fit your particular needs.

Iron supplements are particularly important for menstruating woman, who may be at risk for iron deficiency due to blood loss, as well as pregnant women, who have a greater need for iron to support fetal and placental needs.
