Support healthy cholesterol levels already within the normal range*
Cholesterol can be both good and bad. LDL is usually referred to as "bad" cholesterol and HDL is "good" cholesterol. Numerous natural ingredients may help support healthy cholesterol levels already within the normal range. About 80% of the cholesterol in the body is made by your liver and is the most problematic form. Several supplements target this form such as citrus polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs), tocotrienols and red yeast rice. Other good heart supplements include fish oil and krill oil which support healthy triglyceride levels already within the normal range.
The other 20% of cholesterol in the body comes from dietary sources like animal products. Certain supplements work on this dietary form of cholesterol such as phytosterols (plant sterol esters). Plant sterols have been shown to lower cholesterol levels in 30-60 days when combined with proper diet and exercise. Plant sterols, or phytosterols, are naturally found in plants, vegetables and nuts. According to the FDA, products containing at least 400 milligrams per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily intake of at least 800 milligrams as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.
