Subjects randomized to receive 27g of hydrolyzed whey protein isolate twice per day for 12 weeks showed a 4% reduction in systolic blood pressure and a 3% reduction in diastolic blood pressure. Supplementation with whey protein isolate also resulted in a 14% improvement in vascular function as assessed by a pulse wave analysis technique.
These results indicate that whey protein contains peptides that have a positive effect on blood pressure and vascular function when consumed as part of a typical diet in overweight individuals.
