Protein Boosts Bone Mineral Density

In a trial of 1,077 women aged 72 to 78 years, researchers found those subjects in the lowest one-third of protein consumption (less than 66 grams a day) had significantly lower qualitative ultrasounds of the heel and hip BMD than did subjects in the higher one-third of protein consumption (more than 87 grams a day). Elderly women who want to optimize bone mass may want to consider increasing their protein intake.
