Hope for fibromyalgia

Doctors don’t know what causes fibromyalgia, with its symptoms of pain, fatigue, sleep, memory, and mood issues, but believe the ability of the body to produce energy may be impaired. In this study, 20 participants with fibromyalgia took 300 mg of coenzyme Q10 per day, or a placebo. After 40 days, while the placebo group saw symptoms increase, or improve only slightly, overall symptoms in the CoQ10 group decreased by half, including much less morning and daytime fatigue. In the CoQ10 group, there was a 66 percent increase in the activity of what doctors called the “master energy-regulating enzyme,” AMPK, a key to producing energy.
