Ginkgo Biloba
The herb ginkgo is a widely used prescription medicine in Europe relating to the circulatory system. It supports circulation to the brain with its benefits likely related to its antioxidant constituent, flavone glycosides. Very few nutrients combat the signs of aging as well as ginkgo. Most experts recommend 60 mg of extract (standardized to 24% flavone glycosides) taken 3 times a day. We recommend Lindberg Ginkgo Extract.
Phosphatidylserine
This nutrient is highly concentrated in the brain. Studies show it's most helpful in supporting memory, concentration and learning, especially in those with the most impaired memories. In one study involving name-face recognition, it rolled back the clock 12 years – individuals went from a "cognitive age" of 64 to 52. Typical doses are 200-300 mg a day. Take for 3 months to see if you get results. An excellent choice is Lindberg Phosphatidylserine Complex. If it doesn't work, existing circulating levels are probably adequate.
Acetyl L-Carnitine
Here's another amino acid-like substance that has been widely studied for effects on brain function and memory in the young and old. Young people showed improvements in attention span, hand-eye coordination and reflexes using video game style testing devices. In older people, results were equally compelling. These studies used 1,500 mg a day. One of our best sellers is Lindberg Acetyl L-Carnitine.
Lecithin
Lecithin contains a precursor to acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a major neurotransmitter that provides a chemical bridge between nerve cells. In studies of older adults, aged 50 to 80, its greatest impact was on memory retention when taking 2 tablespoons a day. Since most people don't eat organ meats (a rich sources of lecithin), we tell people to take this inexpensive nutrient to make up for dietary deficiencies. Try Lindberg Lecithin Granules.
