In one preliminary study, doctors wanted to test the effect of creatine on brain function. They gave 121 young women, both vegetarian and omnivorous, 20 grams of creatine monohydrate per day or a placebo.
After five days, compared to placebo, vegetarians who had taken creatine saw memory scores improve by 40 percent, and both vegetarians and omnivores in the creatine group had more consistent responses to a task requiring rapid choices.
